Two bomb explosions in Somalia on Saturday left at least six people dead and ten others wounded, according to police and witnesses. The attacks occurred in Mogadishu, the capital, and Jowhar, a town in the Middle Shabelle region.
In Mogadishu, a car bomb detonated near the National Theatre, approximately one kilometer from the president’s office, killing five people and injuring seven. A police officer on the scene confirmed the casualties but spoke anonymously.
Meanwhile, in Jowhar, a bomb planted in a livestock market killed one person and injured three, police officials reported.
No group has claimed responsibility, though the Islamist militant group al Shabaab, known for orchestrating frequent bombings across Somalia, is suspected. Al Shabaab has been engaged in a long-standing insurgency to overthrow Somalia’s government and impose its version of Islamic law.
