Somalia urges Germany to end forced returns

Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has appealed to the German government to cease the forced deportation of Somali citizens.

During a meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Wednesday, President Mohamud emphasized the need for voluntary repatriation.

The Somali leader expressed concern over the impact of forced deportations on individuals and families.

He stressed that Somalia is open to receiving its citizens who voluntarily choose to return home.

The government is prepared to assist with reintegration efforts, enabling returnees to contribute to the nation’s development.

Beyond the issue of deportations, President Mohamud and Chancellor Scholz discussed a range of topics, including strengthening bilateral relations, revitalizing vocational training programs, enhancing security cooperation, and expanding economic partnerships.

President Mohamud is also scheduled to address the Germany-Africa Investment Summit, where he will advocate for increased investment in Somalia’s growth and development.
