The second group of South African peacekeepers departed Congo on Sunday, arriving at Air Force Base Waterkloof in Pretoria, local media reported.
The first group of 249 soldiers arrived Friday, with a third group expected Monday.
These troops were part of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) mission, approved in May 2023 for eastern Congo.
SADC announced Thursday the start of the second and final withdrawal phase, having terminated the mission’s mandate in early March.
The withdrawal, including equipment and logistics, began in April.
M23 rebels in eastern Congo have seized significant territory since December 2024, escalating instability.
Clashes between M23 and Congolese forces have killed at least 20 peacekeepers, including 14 South Africans.
Despite Qatari-mediated peace efforts, clashes continue in Rutshuru.
The Congolese government accuses Rwanda of supporting M23, a claim Kigali denies.
Prime Minister Judith Suminwa stated over 7,000 people have died this year, and the UN reports over 7.8 million displaced.
