South Africa’s Deputy President, Paul Mashatile, is reported to be in good condition after collapsing during a speech on Saturday afternoon, according to the Premier of Limpopo province, Phophi Ramathuba.
Mashatile was addressing a crowd in Tzaneen, Limpopo province, about 412 kilometers (256 miles) northeast of Johannesburg, during a ceremony marking the inauguration of a local traditional leader when the incident occurred, SABC reported.
Ramathuba, who is also a medical doctor, explained that the deputy president struggled with the heat near the end of his speech but is not in any danger. “The deputy president is fine, he is with his medical team. I was with them, he’s okay, and there’s no need to worry,” she reassured the public.
