South African President Cyril Ramaphosa accused the United States on Sunday of spreading blatant misinformation by alleging his country was killing white citizens. He said US President Donald Trump had revived false claims of “white genocide,” targeting the Afrikaner minority descended from European settlers.
The United States boycotted the G20 summit in Johannesburg, and Trump later declared South Africa would not be invited to the next gathering he plans to host in Miami. Ramaphosa said during a televised address that Washington’s reasons for its “non-participation” relied on baseless allegations of genocide and unlawful land seizures against white South Africans.
He warned that disinformation campaigns inside and outside the country were damaging national interests, costing jobs, and straining ties with one of South Africa’s key partners. Ramaphosa added that Pretoria remained willing to engage the US with respect and dignity, insisting both nations must interact as equal sovereign states.
