South Sudan opens borders to Congolese man deported by US

South Sudan has agreed to allow entry to a US deportee identified as Congolese, the Foreign Ministry announced Tuesday.

The government instructed Juba airport to receive Makula Kintu, according to spokesperson Apuk Ayu el Mayen.

This decision comes amidst a diplomatic row over the acceptance of deported South Sudanese nationals.

Mayen stated that the decision to grant Kintu entry reflects the friendly relations between South Sudan and the United States.

Authorities at Juba International Airport have been directed to facilitate his arrival by Wednesday.

South Sudan reaffirmed its commitment to assisting with the repatriation of verified South Sudanese citizens facing deportation from the US.

The ministry clarified that the individual, initially arriving under the name Nimeri Garang and denied entry, is Congolese national Makula Kintu.

He was previously returned to the United States for further processing.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio had earlier announced the cancellation of all visas for South Sudanese passport holders and a block on new arrivals, accusing Juba of refusing to accept its deported citizens.
