The Sudanese army repelled a new attack on Wednesday carried out by the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) led by Abdelaziz al-Hilu, targeting the city of Kadugli, the capital of South Kordofan state.
Meanwhile, a senior military commander revealed receiving a message from the head of the SPLM-N urging him to join them with a commitment to ensuring his safety in its controlled areas.
Major General Kafi Tayar al-Badin of the Sudanese army revealed that he received a message from the Chief of Staff of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA), affiliated with the SPLM-N, inviting him to join the SPLM-N with a guarantee of his safety in their controlled areas.
He harshly criticized the SPLM-N, accusing it of violating agreements and reigniting the war in South Kordofan by breaching the ceasefire agreement. He pointed out that the SPLM-N war project for nearly 40 years has not brought any benefits to the Nubian people and the citizens of South Kordofan.
Kafi Tayar Al-Badin leads a military militia in the state of South Kordofan that supported the Sudanese army in its war against the SPLM-N in the Nuba Mountains. He is also the leader of the Nuba tribes in the Al-Buram region east of Kadugli, and he was previously granted the rank of major general by the ousted president Omar al-Bashir.
Meanwhile, the Humanitarian Aid Commissioner in South Kordofan State, Abdullah Khamees, stated that the number of displaced people in the state due to clashes between the army and the People’s Movement has risen to 100,000.
