Sudan’s Ministry of Health reports 32 fatalities and 107 injuries from torrential rains and floods across 7 states since June.
The Health Emergency Department Director, Muhammed Mahmud, confirmed the widespread impact.
Mahmud noted that 7 of Sudan’s 18 states have been affected by the recent rains and floods.
The severe weather has resulted in significant damage to infrastructure and housing.
According to the Ministry, the torrential rains have led to the destruction of 5,575 homes, either partially or completely.
The floods have caused widespread devastation across the affected areas.
The rainy season in Sudan, spanning from July to October, annually results in over 100 deaths and damages tens of thousands of homes, workplaces, and agricultural lands.
Floods and inundations during this period consistently lead to severe human and material losses.
The ongoing crisis highlights the need for enhanced flood management and disaster response strategies.
