Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit warned on Wednesday that Sudan is approaching a “full-scale civil war” in light of the ongoing conflict between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
Aboul Gheit stated during a speech at the Arab League Council meeting, “We are approaching a state of full-scale civil war in Sudan, and urgent action must be taken to achieve a comprehensive solution to the crisis.”
Regarding the Arab-African Summit scheduled to be held in Saudi Arabia in November, the Secretary-General stated that this summit is essential and comes at the right time to strengthen relations with partners on the continent.
For nearly five months now, there have been intense and widespread clashes between the Sudanese army and the RSF in various regions of Sudan, with most of them concentrated in the capital, Khartoum, resulting in hundreds of civilian casualties, both dead and wounded.
Arab, African, and international parties have attempted to mediate and achieve a ceasefire, but none of them have succeeded in achieving a permanent cessation of fighting until now.
