TASIS says it is ready for talks to end Sudan war

Sudan’s Government of Peace and Unity says it is ready to join any Sudan peace talks that could bring an end to the country’s war.

Prime Minister Mohamed Hassan al-Taishi said the TASIS administration would participate in a peace process if it led to what he described as a just settlement.

He said such a settlement should address long-standing marginalisation and rebuild Sudan on new foundations.

The comments come as international efforts continue to secure a ceasefire and political negotiations.

Al-Taishi backs Sudan peace talks

Al-Taishi made the remarks during the “Million People for Recovery” gathering in Nyala, South Darfur.

“We are ready for any peace process that stops the war in Sudan, provided that it is a just peace,” he said, according to Radio Tamazuj.

The gathering included residents, students and civil society groups.

Al-Taishi also praised forces belonging to the Sudan Founding Alliance, known as TASIS.

The alliance includes the Rapid Support Forces and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North led by Abdelaziz al-Hilu.

Recovery efforts continue in several cities

Al-Taishi also spoke about conditions in areas administered by the Government of Peace and Unity.

He said recovery efforts were progressing in Nyala, El Geneina, Zalingei, El Daein and El Fula.

According to Al-Taishi, schools in all five cities were ready to receive students.

His comments come as international efforts to stop Sudan’s war gather momentum.

US-backed ceasefire proposal under discussion

A US-backed proposal is currently being discussed as part of efforts to end the conflict.

According to Reuters, the proposal calls for an initial 90-day ceasefire.

Political negotiations would then follow.

However, the proposal has faced criticism from figures aligned with the army-led authorities in Port Sudan.

Amjad Farid, an adviser aligned with those authorities, has argued that the proposal does not adequately address demands for RSF forces to withdraw from urban areas.

TASIS established administration in 2025

TASIS was formed in 2025.

The alliance brought together political groups, armed movements, civil society organisations and other factions.

It later established the Government of Peace and Unity to administer areas under its control.

Nyala serves as the administration’s seat.

Sudan’s war began in April 2023 between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the RSF.

The fighting followed the collapse of negotiations over Sudan’s planned transition to civilian government.

Since then, the conflict has divided the country into rival areas of control. It has also created a major displacement and humanitarian crisis.

The latest comments from Al-Taishi signal TASIS’s stated willingness to participate in Sudan peace talks as efforts to secure a ceasefire continue.
