Sudanese army general killed in RSF artillery attack

On Sunday, the commander of the 17th Infantry Division in the state of Sennar in central Sudan and one of the prominent army leaders, Major General Ayoub Abdel Qader, was killed in artillery shelling carried out by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) targeting the Armored Corps headquarters south of Khartoum.

For days, the RSF fighters have been launching intense shelling on the army headquarters and the Armored Corps, while direct ground attacks have receded.

The RSF seek to control the Armored Corps headquarters located south of the capital, Khartoum, where they have engaged in fierce battles against the army in the past two months, managing to reach parts of the large camp.

Military sources stated that Major General Ayoub and several officers and soldiers were killed in the early hours of Sunday due to intense artillery shelling carried out by the RSF targeting the Armored Corps headquarters.

During the successive waves of attacks that the Armored Corps faced in August, the forces led by Ayoub repelled more than ten intense assaults carried out by the RSF, according to military sources.

The war between the Sudanese army and the RSF, which began in mid-April last year, has now completed its sixth month without any prospects for cessation, as both parties remain determined to continue fighting.
