The Sudanese army announced on Wednesday the killing of 40 militants from the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement–North (SPLM-N) forces led by Abdul Aziz Al-Hilu in South Kordofan state, Southern Sudan.
This came in an audio statement by the army spokesperson, Nabil Abdullah, published by the army on its official Facebook account.
The spokesperson stated that the army forces “faced a failed attack in the city of Kadugli, the capital of South Kordofan state, by the forces of the SPLM-North led by Abdul Aziz Al-Hilu”.
He added, “The army inflicted significant losses in both personnel and equipment on the enemy forces, killing 40 rebels, dispersing their ranks, and causing them to flee.”
On Tuesday, the Sudanese army announced the complete contol of the areas that were previously under the control of the SPLM-N led by Al-Hilu in the Blue Nile state, southeast of the country.
Over the past four years, the Khartoum government and the SPLM-N have extended a ceasefire agreement in the areas under their respective control.
The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement has been engaged in active fighting in the regions of South Kordofan and Blue Nile since 2011, aiming to secure a distinct status for these two areas.
