Sudanese political and civil society leaders will gather in Nairobi on Tuesday to announce the formation of a “Peace and Unity Government,” organizers said, in what is being hailed as a key step toward resolving the country’s political crisis.
Delegations from within Sudan and abroad have begun arriving in the Kenyan capital for the signing of a political charter that will serve as the foundation for the proposed government, according to the event’s organizing committee.
Political factions, traditional authorities, and civil society groups backing the initiative see the charter as a crucial step in forming an inclusive, civilian-led administration aimed at reshaping Sudan’s political landscape.
The document is expected to establish a constitutional framework for the new government amid ongoing political and security turmoil. Signatories hope the initiative will foster unity and cooperation to restore stability in Sudan.
A broad coalition of political and civil entities is expected to attend the signing, including the United Civilian Forces Alliance (Qimam), the Unified Federal Party, the National Umma Party, the Federal Party, the Revolutionary Front, and various armed movements and community organizations.
Some leaders are coordinating travel from neighboring countries to participate in the event, which will formally launch the political charter and the roadmap for the planned unity government.
