A new report from the Emergency Lawyers organisation states that the exchanged aerial and artillery bombardment between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has resulted in the deaths of 954 civilians and the injury of 2,434 others in the state of Khartoum and the cities of Al-Obeid in North Kordofan and Nyala in South Darfur.

According to the detailed report titled “Cities Under Ashes: Victims of Artillery and Aerial Bombardment,” the casualties, injuries, and losses in civilian structures resulted from 160 documented and verified cases of artillery and aerial bombardment during the period from April 16 to September 19 of the current year.

Among the casualties were 130 children and 94 women. The report specified that the cities of Khartoum recorded 647 deaths, Al-Obeid 79 deaths, and Nyala 228 deaths.

The report documented the types of heavy weapons used by both parties and their deployment in various areas of Khartoum. It also detailed the types of fighter aircraft used by the Sudanese armed forces and the countries of origin for these weapons.

The report recommended ceasing indiscriminate bombing operations targeting residential neighbourhoods, markets, and civilian property. It emphasised the need to distinguish between civilians and combatants, as well as between civilian and military targets.
