Sudanese parties: Jeddah platform is the only way to end war

The Sudanese Forces of Freedom and Change (FFC) coalition, which includes the largest number of political parties and civil society organizations, stated that the only way out of the war between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) is the Jeddah platform, sponsored by Saudi Arabia and the United States, to facilitate negotiations between the conflicting parties.

“Jeddah Forum is the only available option for the warring parties to put an end to the fighting… and we call on both parties to make the right decision to head to the negotiating halls in Jeddah to end this disastrous war and start a political process that leads to ending the war and rebuilding the country.” The FFC stated.

This comes as clashes renewed between the conflicting parties on Monday in several fronts in the capital Khartoum, as the war entered its seventh month.

The FFC added that the war is expanding to new states that were not part of it during the past six months, as it recently entered the states of Al-Jazira and White Nile in the central part of the country. These two states have remained distant from conflict zones and have no history of armed conflicts. The alliance further stated that the spread of fighting now threatens about 75% of the country’s population, amid the increasing number of states affected by the war.

According to the FFC, preliminary indicators of the losses affecting the economy, including infrastructure and the industrial base concentrated in Khartoum, suggest that they represent around 80% of the total national economy. The statement warned that civilians in war zones are susceptible to death or injury due to shelling, gunfire, and artillery and aerial bombardment between the warring parties.
