Sudanese Transitional Sovereignty Council announces limited cabinet reshuffle

Sudan’s Transitional Sovereignty Council Chairman, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, issued a decision to terminate the assignments of five ministers and appoint four new others in their place.

The decision came through two separate statements released by the Sovereignty Council on Wednesday.

The statement revealed the termination of the duties of Mohamed Abdullah Mahmoud, the Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Amal Saleh Saad, the Minister of Trade and Supply, Hisham Ahmed Ali Abuzeid, the Minister of Transportation, Suad Al-Tayeb Hassan, the Minister of Labor and Administrative Reform, and Al-Hafiz Ibrahim Abd al-Nabi, the Minister of Animal Wealth.

The Sovereignty Council’s second statement appointed Mohi al-din Naeem Mohamed Said as the Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Alfatih Abdullah Youssef as the Minister of Trade and Supply, Abu Bakr Abu Al-Qasim Abdullah as the Minister of Transportation, and Ahmed Ali Abdel Rahman as the Minister of Labor and Administrative Reform.

Meanwhile, the position of the Minister of Animal Wealth remained vacant until Wednesday evening.

The Sovereignty Council’s statements did not disclose any details regarding the reasons behind al-Burhan’s decision or its circumstances at the time.

The cabinet reshuffle came amid the ongoing conflict since mid-April between the Sudanese military and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) that resulted in over 9,000 deaths and nearly 6 million displaced and refugee individuals within and outside the country, according to the United Nations.
