The Qatari Foreign Ministry announced on Tuesday an upcoming visit by the Sudanese Sovereignty Council President, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, to Doha.
This announcement was made by Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Majid Al-Ansari, as reported by Qatari media.
Al-Ansari stated that Al-Burhan is “conducting a tour to several countries, and Qatar is one of his stops,” without specifying the exact date. However, unofficial media reports suggest that the visit will take place on Wednesday.
The Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson denied knowledge of any “mediation request directed to Qatar” but reiterated Qatar’s stance, calling for an end to the war and a ceasefire in Sudan.
If Al-Burhan visits Doha on Wednesday, it will be the third country he has visited in his recent foreign tours, starting with Egypt and then South Sudan.
Since mid-April of the past year, the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have been engaged in clashes that have not been halted by a series of ceasefires, resulting in more than 3,000 deaths, mostly civilians, and more than 4 million displaced and refugees within and outside the country.
