Sudan’s cholera epidemic claims over 1,300 lives

The death toll from the cholera outbreak in Sudan has tragically surpassed 1,316, according to the General Abdel Fattah al Burhan’s army-controlled Ministry of Health.

The Ministry’s statement revealed that the total number of cholera cases in the country has reached 49,554.

The outbreak, exacerbated by heavy rains and floods that began in June, has devastated the country.

Cholera was declared as an epidemic on August 12th.

The United Nations has expressed deep concern, with the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs reporting that 3.4 million Sudanese children are at risk.

International aid organizations, such as UNICEF, are actively responding, having recently dispatched 1.4 million doses of cholera vaccine to the affected regions.

The ongoing war and the already fragile health system in Sudan have significantly hindered efforts to contain the outbreak, further compounding the suffering of the Sudanese people.
