Sudan’s oil production disrupted in clashes between rival forces

Satellite imagery has confirmed the destruction of Sudan’s largest oil refinery in a recent wave of fighting between General Abdel Fattah al Burhan-controlled SAF and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Fierce clashes erupted at the al-Jaili refinery, located north of Khartoum, resulting in widespread fires across the complex.

Thick plumes of black smoke were observed rising from the site, visible from the capital.

The RSF accused the SAF of conducting air strikes on the facility.

The destruction of the refinery will have a significant impact on Sudan’s economy and exacerbate the ongoing humanitarian crisis.

The conflict, which began in April 2023, has already resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and displaced millions of people.

The United Nations has expressed deep concern over the escalating violence and the destruction of critical infrastructure.

This incident underscores the devastating impact of the ongoing civil war on Sudan’s civilian population and its economy.
