Sudan’s RSF claims airport west of the capital Khartoum

The Sudanese Rapid Support Forces (RSF) stated on Monday that they took control of Baleela Airport in West Kordofan State, west of the capital, Khartoum, which was previously under the control of the Sudanese army.

They added that the Sudanese army had been using the Baleela airport in West Kordofan State to launch military aircraft.

The area of Baleela is approximately 55 kilometers southwest of Al-Fula, the capital of West Kordofan State. In that area, there’s an oil field that used to produce about 22,000 barrels per day before the outbreak of the conflict.

However, the production has been severely affected over the past seven months. The production declined to 10,000 to 12,000 barrels per day.

Workers at the Baleela oil field said they were evacuated on Sunday evening due to the fighting.

The RSF reassured oil companies, pledging not to target the oil fields or disrupt their operations and flights from Baleela.

Battles took place between both sides in the cities of Al-Obeid and Al-Fashir in the western part of the country in recent days, while negotiations mediated by Saudi Arabia and the United States resumed in Jeddah, aiming to achieve a permanent ceasefire.
