A tragic building collapse in Tanzania’s commercial hub, Dar es Salaam, has left at least 13 people dead. The four-storey structure in the Kariakoo market area crumbled on Saturday around 9 a.m. (0600 GMT).
President Samia Suluhu Hassan confirmed that over 80 individuals were rescued and taken to hospitals, with 26 still receiving treatment. The government has pledged to cover medical expenses and assist with funeral arrangements.
Incidents like these are not uncommon in parts of Africa, often linked to poor construction practices and inadequate regulatory oversight.
