Tanzanian police recently banned a planned youth gathering organized by the main opposition party, Chadema.
The party’s youth wing had intended to celebrate International Youth Day in Mbeya with around 10,000 participants under the slogan “Take charge of your future.”
However, police alleged that Chadema aimed to incite violence rather than celebrate.
The ban has sparked criticism from Chadema officials, who called for President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s intervention.
As Tanzania moves toward elections next year, tensions remain high between political parties.
