Tasees urges sanctions on Burhan’s SAF for chemical weapons use

Sudanese political-military alliance Tasees has urged international sanctions against General al-Burhan’s (SAF), accusing it of using chemical weapons in the ongoing conflict.

The alliance, one of Sudan’s largest, called on regional and global bodies to investigate and hold accountable those responsible for the alleged attacks.

In a statement released Monday, Tasees referenced recent U.S. Department of State findings confirming the use of chemical weapons by SAF and allied jihadist militias targeting civilians.

Tasees claimed military leaders admitted to using deadly force to restore the rule of the Islamic Movement, overthrown in the 2019 revolution.

The alliance condemned the military’s refusal to negotiate, citing a history of atrocities linked to the Islamic Movement, including war crimes charges against former dictator Omar al-Bashir. Tasees warned of ongoing violence, including the secession of South Sudan and conflicts in the Nuba Mountains and Blue Nile.

Tasees called for vigilance against the SAF’s efforts to stoke ethnic and tribal divisions, stressing that the regime continues to push for chaos in the country amid mounting war crimes allegations.
