Train hits KPC staff bus near Kenya’s Naivasha, four dead

Four people were killed and an unknown number injured on Thursday when a Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) staff bus collided with a freight train at a level crossing outside Naivasha in central Kenya, emergency officials said.

The vehicle was returning morning-shift workers from a nearby KPC training centre when it was struck. “All injured staff have been evacuated to Naivasha hospitals, and critical cases will be airlifted for advanced care,” the company said in a statement.

Kenya Red Cross teams pulled four bodies from the wreckage; local police told The Standard newspaper the death toll could rise, citing at least six fatalities and “scores” hurt.

KPC has opened an internal inquiry, while transport authorities have dispatched investigators to determine whether signal or driver error caused the crash.
