Tribal conflict is broadening and situation is disastrous, Darfur govt says

Against the backdrop of the ongoing war in Sudan for the past 145 days, South Darfur State is experiencing another conflict, with tribal violence expanding in the Kibkam area.

Local sources have confirmed the killing of at least 260 people in the ongoing conflict between the Bani Halba and Salamat tribes, with over 540 individuals wounded from both sides.

The tribal violence has resulted in the burning of 36 residential neighbourhoods within the conflict zones and the death of 270 cattle, along with several burnt vehicles.

Meanwhile, Mustafa Jameel, the spokesperson for the Darfur regional government, confirmed that the tribal conflict has expanded due to the deteriorating security situation and the ongoing war in the country. He described the situation in the region as catastrophic.

Furthermore, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, arrived in Chad on Wednesday to meet with Sudanese refugees who have fled ethnic and sexual violence in Darfur. She stated that this situation reminds her of the atrocities committed 20 years ago, which Washington described as genocide.
