Trump offers to revive US mediation in Nile dispute

The United States is prepared to restart mediation between Egypt and Ethiopia to address the long-running dispute over Nile River water sharing. President Donald Trump announced the move in a letter to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, signalling renewed American engagement in the sensitive negotiations.

He said Washington stands ready to help resolve the Nile water issue “once and for all,” framing the effort as a responsible diplomatic intervention. Trump published the letter on his Truth Social account, casting the message as both a political declaration and a public appeal.

The Nile, lifeblood of northeast Africa, has long been a source of tension, with water rights shaping regional diplomacy and national survival. The proposed mediation revives hopes that dialogue may ease a dispute where history, geography, and human need continue to collide.
