Congolese President Felix Tshisekedi has called on the United States to buy raw materials directly from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), accusing Rwanda of exploiting Congolese resources through violence.
Tshisekedi’s appeal follows revelations by the Trump administration, exposing years of hidden resource misappropriations. Presidential spokesperson Tina Salama stated the offer extends to European nations and other buyers sourcing materials from Rwanda.
She warned that acquiring “stolen goods” would soon be more complicated. The statement follows US sanctions against Rwandan officials linked to escalating violence in eastern DRC.
The M23, an armed group in the region, has intensified its attacks, capturing key cities and causing thousands of deaths and displacements. The DRC accuses Rwanda of supporting the M23, though Rwanda denies the claims.
