Tugboat in Suez Canal sinks following collision with tanker

The Suez Canal Authority reported that a tugboat in the Suez Canal sank following a collision with a Hong Kong-flagged LPG tanker, however, the authority did not provide details regarding any potential disruption to shipping traffic.

Osama Rabie, the head of the canal authority, stated that there were seven individuals aboard the tugboat “Fahd” and that efforts for rescue were in progress, with a crane dispatched to retrieve the submerged vessel.

Rabie explained that the collision took place when the tanker “CHINAGAS LEGEND” was situated in the Ballah region, moving south as part of its voyage from Singapore to the United States.

“The tanker is currently waiting in Port Said until the completion of the procedures related to the accident,” Rabie said.

The tanker measures 230 meters in length and 36 meters in width, transporting a cargo of 52,000 tons of LPG.
