Tunisian police arrest 12 people on suspicion of forming terrorist cell

Tunisian authorities announced the arrest of 12 individuals in the governorate of Zaghouan, in the northeastern part of the country, on charges of forming a terrorist cell.

The authorities made the announcement in a statement issued by the General Directorate of Security and published on its official Facebook page.

According to the statement, a group that intended to carry out terrorist acts was dismantled, and several mobile phones and electronic equipment were seized.

It added that the security forces managed to uncover the plan of these individuals and detained 12 members, and investigations are ongoing.

Since May 2011, Tunisia has witnessed sporadic terrorist acts that escalated, especially from 2013, claiming the lives of numerous security personnel, military personnel, and foreign tourists.
