President of Tunisia, Kais Saied, considered the escape of five “terrorists” from a prison as a “smuggling operation” and hinted at a connection between the parties that facilitated their escape and “Zionist movements.”
Referring to the escape of the five “terrorists” from the Mornaguia prison west of the capital on Tuesday, Saied stated that “the smuggling operation that occurred yesterday is not an escape operation.” He said that the five prisoners’ escape was a well-planned operation that had clearly been in the pipeline for “months”.
This statement was made during a meeting between Saied and the Interior Minister, Kamel Feki, on Wednesday at the Carthage Palace.
Tunisian media outlets broadcast images purportedly from the Mornaguia prison, showing a rope hanging from an observation tower and pictures of a window where the “terrorists” allegedly fled.
Saied added, “The images broadcasted have no connection with reality and were intended to divert the course of the investigations.”
He continued, “What happened yesterday is unacceptable on any scale of measures, and there is negligence on the part of the authorities and some individuals who must be pursued and brought to justice.”
Saied further remarked that “anyone who believes they can disrupt the state by colluding with Zionist movements from within, we say to them that the state cannot be disrupted.”
On Tuesday, the Tunisian Ministry of the Interior announced, in a statement, the “escape of 5 terrorists from Mornaguia prison” west of the capital, Tunis.
They notified all security units to intensify the search to apprehend the fugitives and published their pictures and names: Ahmed Al-Maliki, Omar Al-Belazi, Raed Al-Tawati, Alaa Al-Din Ghazwani, and Nader Al-Ghanmi.
