The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has expressed strong support for Turkey’s diplomatic efforts to resolve the escalating crisis in Sudan, describing the conflict as a regional priority.
In a statement, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with Turkey and other international partners to achieve a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict between Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and General al-Burhan’s Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF).
The UAE emphasized the importance of an immediate ceasefire and cessation of hostilities, along with addressing the deepening humanitarian crisis in Sudan. The Gulf nation reiterated its dedication to providing urgent relief aid to the Sudanese population and called on all parties to respect their commitments under the Jeddah Declaration and mechanisms proposed by the Aligned for Advancing Lifesaving and Peace in Sudan (ALPS) Group.
“The primary focus remains on stopping the escalation, achieving a ceasefire, and fostering intra-Sudanese dialogue that includes all political factions and warring parties,” the ministry said, adding that such efforts are crucial to meeting the Sudanese people’s aspirations for peace, security, and prosperity.
The UAE’s statement comes as the SAF declined to participate in the latest peace talks held in Geneva under the auspices of the ALPS Group.
The ministry described this absence as a “blatant disregard” for the humanitarian suffering in Sudan and a demonstration of unwillingness to engage in meaningful dialogue.
As the conflict drags on, both regional and international actors have intensified efforts to mediate a resolution. The UAE reiterated that dialogue and negotiation are the only viable pathways to resolving the crisis and establishing a civilian-led government.
The UAE called on all parties to return to the negotiation table and actively engage in peace efforts, stressing that regional stability hinges on an inclusive political solution.
Sudan has been in turmoil since April, with clashes between the RSF and SAF resulting in thousands of deaths and displacing millions, further exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the region.
