Uganda and South Sudan agree to quicken demarcation of borders

South Sudan and Uganda have agreed to accelerate the border demarcation process to enhance regional stability, encourage peaceful coexistence, and foster trade between border communities.

The decision to expedite border demarcation between South Sudan and Uganda follows an urgent message from Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni to President Kiir, highlighting the need for resolving border disputes swiftly.

Uganda’s State Minister for Defence Hajjat Oleru Huda said the resolution of the border issues would help restore peaceful co-existence among the communities living along the common border to spur economic transformation in the region.

South Sudan’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ramadan Goc, confirmed that both President Kiir and President Museveni have instructed their joint technical teams to accelerate the processes aimed at resolving border-related issues.

The two countries, South Sudan and Uganda, established a Joint Technical Committee (JTC) on Delimitation and Demarcation of their international border in 2016. However, this committee has not been very active due to various factors.
