Ugandan police have arrested six Congolese nationals in Arua City over their alleged involvement in a counterfeit currency operation.
Acting on intelligence about fake U.S. dollars circulating in the area, undercover detectives launched an operation in Upper Bibia Cell. Officers posed as buyers and arrested six suspects while several others reportedly fled the scene.
Police identified the suspects as Minike Dudu, Mumbere Asiha, Akwiriza Dudu Mitira, Shadrak Kaputara, Jean Pierre Hassan and Musa Ahmed.
During the operation, officers recovered bundles of suspected counterfeit U.S. currency and 12 sticks of rolled marijuana. The seized items have been secured as evidence for the investigation.
Police spokesperson SP Jimmy Anguyo Bayiga praised local residents for providing information that helped detectives uncover the alleged syndicate.
Authorities said the suspects will be brought before court after investigators complete the necessary procedures and file formal charges.
Police also urged the public to remain alert and report suspected counterfeit currency activities, warning that financial fraud poses a serious threat to communities.
