The United Nations (UN) has called for urgent action and increased investment to avert a deepening food crisis in South Sudan.
UN Food and Agriculture Organization Director-General Chu Dongyü, World Food Programme Executive Director Cindy McCain and International Fund for Agricultural Development President Alvaro Lario issued a joint written statement following their three-day visit to South Sudan.
The statement highlighted the devastating impact of extreme climate events and lack of infrastructure on the people of South Sudan and called for urgent action and increased investment to prevent the deepening food crisis in the country.
