The United Nations is raising serious concerns about a potential escalation of violence in Sudan’s North Darfur region.
On Friday, a UN spokesperson announced growing worries about the encirclement of al-Fashir, the region’s capital, by Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
This movement by the RSF is seen as a possible precursor to an attack on the city.
In response to the escalating tensions, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has dispatched his envoy to engage with all parties involved.
The aim is to de-escalate the situation and prevent further violence.
