Sudan’s crisis from June to September 2023 left over 20 million people in “crisis” conditions or worse, with extraordinarily high levels of severe food insecurity, according to a UN report.
Sudan, the world’s largest internal displacement crisis, saw 6.3 million people experiencing “emergency” levels of food insecurity.
In Haiti, conflict, violence, and displacement worsened the food crisis, affecting about 5 million people, half the population, with severe food insecurity at “crisis” levels or higher.
This included 1.8 million people facing “emergency” levels during the famine from March to June 2023.
In South Sudan, 7.8 million people, or 63 percent of the population, faced severe food insecurity at the third stage during the famine from April to July 2023.
