UN struggles to deliver aid to Sudan due to bureaucratic hurdles

The United Nations is encountering significant “bureaucratic obstacles” in its efforts to deliver crucial aid to Sudan, a UN spokesman announced on Thursday.

Stephane Dujarric told reporters that delays in visa approvals for humanitarian personnel are severely undermining humanitarian access.

He noted that only 16% of visa applications were approved in March, a trend that could seriously impede life-saving operations.

Dujarric also stated that over 400,000 people have been displaced due to ongoing violence, with access to Zamzam remaining completely blocked.

The UN urgently calls for an immediate cessation of hostilities in Sudan.

Furthermore, the UN implores all parties to adhere to international humanitarian law, ensure civilian protection, and grant safe and unimpeded humanitarian access.

The conflict between the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the General Abdel Fattah al Burhan’s army, which began on April 15, 2023, has led to thousands of deaths and a severe humanitarian crisis.
