The Governor of North Darfur State, Nimir Abdulrhman, has revealed that 40,000 displaced families in the state are in urgent need of humanitarian assistance due to the ongoing conflict between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
The city of Al-Fashir is witnessing an increase in the number of people fleeing from the states of South and West Darfur due to the conflict in these regions, in addition to the collapse of the healthcare system, as most hospitals in North Darfur have ceased operations.
The Governor of North Darfur State stated that the number of people fleeing from South Darfur, West Darfur, and Khartoum to Al-Fashir has reached approximately 70,000 families.
International and national organizations have called for urgent provision of humanitarian aid to the displaced people in North Darfur.
Meanwhile, the International Committee of the Red Cross announced the distribution of relief aid to cover 30,000 displaced individuals in North Darfur.
Adnan Hazem, the spokesperson for the International Committee of the Red Cross, mentioned that the aid, consisting of blankets, clothing, kitchen utensils, and hygiene items, was provided to help the displaced individuals adapt to their situation and meet some of their needs.
He further mentioned that there is coordination between the committee and the Sudanese Red Crescent Society in providing support and assistance in the displacement areas across all states of Sudan.
