US AFRICOM leads large-scale exercise in East Africa

The U.S. Africa Command’s largest annual military exercise, Justified Accord 2025, is underway in East Africa.

Led by U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Africa (SETAF-AF), the 11-day exercise, running through Friday, brings together approximately 1,300 personnel from 15 nations, including [mention a few, e.g., Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania].

Hosted by Kenya for the fourth consecutive year, Justified Accord focuses on enhancing interoperability between partner nations, building peacekeeping capabilities, and countering regional threats such as terrorism.

The training includes joint operations, crisis response simulations, and specialized instruction in areas like border security and counter-IED tactics.

Brig. Gen. John LeBlanc, deputy commanding general of SETAF-AF, visited participating soldiers on Tuesday, along with Command Sgt. Maj. James Campbell of the U.S. Massachusetts National Guard. Campbell presented medals to participants, recognizing their contributions to the exercise.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Massachusetts National Guard’s partnership with the Kenya Defense Forces.

Over the past decade, this collaboration has facilitated numerous exchange training programs, capacity-building initiatives, and joint exercises, significantly strengthening the KDF’s capabilities and fostering stronger ties between the two forces.
