US lawmakers seek tougher stance on Sudan conflict

A group of US lawmakers, led by top Democrat Gregory Meeks, is introducing legislation aimed at pressuring the warring factions in Sudan to cease hostilities and allow humanitarian aid.

The bill calls for sanctions against leaders on both sides of the conflict, a ban on US arms sales to countries supporting the war, and the establishment of a special envoy to coordinate US efforts in Sudan.

The legislation comes amid growing concerns about the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Sudan.

Millions of people are facing famine and displacement, and the conflict has led to widespread violence and human rights abuses.

The US has been criticized for not taking a more forceful stance on the conflict.

The new legislation seeks to address these concerns and hold accountable those responsible for the ongoing violence.

It also aims to bolster humanitarian efforts and facilitate a peaceful resolution to the conflict.

The bill’s introduction highlights the growing bipartisan consensus in the US Congress on the need for urgent action to address the crisis in Sudan.

As the US prepares for a change in administration, the legislation could signal a continued focus on the region and a commitment to supporting the Sudanese people.
