Senior officials from the United States and key global partners reaffirmed support Tuesday for Libya’s path toward unity and stability.
The Libya Senior Officials Meeting, chaired by the US, convened representatives from Egypt, France, Germany, Italy, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, UAE, and the UK.
According to the State Department, participants voiced strong backing for the UN Support Mission in Libya and its political roadmap efforts.
Delegates emphasized the need for meaningful dialogue among Libyan factions to strengthen national cohesion and political legitimacy across regions.
The meeting underlined that integrating Libya’s east and west security apparatuses is essential for broader regional stability and cooperative security initiatives.
Officials highlighted steps enabled by a 2025 UN arms embargo modification, allowing joint training and technical assistance programs for Libyan forces.
Participants agreed that coordinated international efforts in economic stability, investment creation, and resource safeguarding could drive national unity and shared prosperity.
Libya remains divided between two rival administrations: Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh’s government in Tripoli, controlling the west, and Osama Hammad’s authority in Benghazi, governing the east.
Despite years of division, officials conveyed cautious optimism that diplomatic engagement and international support could foster lasting political, economic, and security reforms.
The meeting reflects a broader international determination to prevent Libya’s fragmentation from destabilizing the wider Mediterranean and North African region.
