In November, former President Donald Trump sparked controversy by suggesting on social media that the United States might consider military action in Nigeria to address the killing of Christians. While US officials have not contradicted Trump’s statement, they have focused on other measures, including security cooperation with the Nigerian government and the possibility of targeted sanctions.
A senior Nigerian delegation recently visited Washington, signalling readiness to “deepen security cooperation” with the United States, as officials explored ways to address the ongoing violence.
