In a video message, he highlighted African contributions to scientific advancements during the COVID-19 pandemic, the fight against HIV/AIDS, and the ongoing reform of global health systems.
The WHO, he emphasized, is “proud to partner with African institutions,” including the African Medicines Agency, the mRNA Technology Transfer platform, and the African Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Ghebreyesus stressed the importance of fostering the next generation of African global health leaders and supporting the continent’s scientific ecosystem.
He called for increased international and domestic investment in scientific institutions, stronger regional partnerships, and the translation of research into effective policies.
Ghebreyesus concluded by advocating for collaborative efforts to leverage science, leadership, and cooperation for a healthier, safer, and more peaceful Africa and world.
