World condemns deadly terrorist attack in Nigeria

The United Nations, African Union, and countries including Turkey, Germany, and Benin condemned a deadly attack in Kwara State, Nigeria.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres denounced the assault, offering condolences to victims’ families and wishing swift recovery for the injured, while pledging support to Abuja.

Guterres stressed the UN’s solidarity with Nigeria in combating terrorism, urging authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice without delay.

Turkey’s Foreign Ministry expressed sorrow over the tragedy, reaffirming Ankara’s support for Nigeria’s anti-terrorism efforts and solidarity with the affected communities.

Germany condemned the attack and pledged Berlin’s backing for Nigeria’s security, extending thoughts to the victims’ relatives and survivors.

Benin also offered “most sincere condolences” and emphasized cooperation with Nigeria in fighting violent extremism and promoting regional stability.

African Union Commission Chairman Mahmoud Ali Youssouf described the attack as a “heinous and barbaric act” violating human rights and regional peace.

On Tuesday, armed groups struck two villages in Kwara State, killing at least 170 people, with many shot at close range and homes set ablaze.

The state government reported 75 victims buried in a mass grave, while lawmaker Saidu Baba Ahmed said the death toll could rise as 35 women were abducted.

Survivors reportedly fled into bushland, escaping violence, as local communities struggle with banditry, kidnappings, and armed groups moving from northwest and north-central states.

Authorities continue search operations, while international partners express solidarity and call for strengthened security measures to prevent further tragedies.
