A contingent of 178 Zambian soldiers from ZAMBATT IX returned to the country on Saturday after completing a year-long peacekeeping mission in the Central African Republic (CAR).
The troops were part of the UN Multinational Integrated Stabilization Mission (MINUSCA).
Upon their arrival at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport, Army Col. Gen. for Staff Liyungu Akushanga commended the troops for their dedication and professionalism during the mission.
He praised their efforts in protecting civilians and maintaining high standards set by previous Zambian battalions in the conflict-ridden country.
ZAMBATT IX contingent commander Moses Shapwaya attributed the successful mission to the team’s strong teamwork and adaptability in overcoming challenges.
He highlighted the cohort’s contribution to creating a safe environment for locals to engage in free movement and trade.
As ZAMBATT IX returns home, a new cohort, ZAMBATT X, has been deployed to the CAR to continue the peacekeeping efforts.
The focus of ZAMBATT X will be on ensuring the safety of civilians, particularly women and children.
