Egyptian budget airline Air Cairo is reportedly considering an order for up to 30 Airbus aircraft as it seeks to expand its fleet and international network.
The potential deal would include around 15 Airbus A320-family jets, with options for another 15 aircraft, according to people familiar with the talks cited in the source material.
If completed, the order would strengthen Air Cairo’s existing Airbus fleet and support further growth across the Middle East and Europe.
Air Cairo Airbus order could reach 30 jets
Air Cairo is initially looking at around 15 narrowbody aircraft from the Airbus A320 family.
However, options for another 15 would bring the potential order to as many as 30 aircraft.
The talks could advance soon, although no final agreement has been announced.
Therefore, the size and timing of any eventual order could still change.
Air Cairo expands its fleet
Air Cairo already has a significant Airbus presence.
The Egyptian carrier operates around 30 Airbus A320-family aircraft, alongside a smaller number of Embraer regional jets and ATR turboprops.
The airline currently serves more than 60 destinations across the Middle East and Europe.
Adding more narrowbody aircraft could allow Air Cairo to increase frequencies and expand its route network.
Airbus A320 family remains key to airline growth
The A320 family is widely used for short- and medium-haul flights.
It includes the A319, A320 and A321, as well as newer versions such as the A320neo, A321neo and longer-range A321XLR.
These aircraft are designed for routes similar to many of those currently served by Air Cairo.
A larger Airbus fleet could also give the airline more capacity as Egypt seeks to strengthen its position as a major aviation and tourism hub.
