Gabon’s leader, Brice Oligui Nguema, following his decisive presidential election victory in April, has announced a new cabinet.
In a move to address the nation’s pressing liquidity issues, he appointed Henri-Claude Oyima as the minister of state for economy, finance, and debt on Monday.
Oyima is a well-known banker, serving as the chief executive of Gabon-based BGFI Bank and head of the Gabonese Confederation of Businesses.
President Nguema, who was inaugurated over the weekend, has outlined his economic priorities.
These include bolstering agriculture, industry, and tourism within the oil-reliant economy, alongside a commitment to combating corruption.
Oyima was unavailable for immediate comment. Nguema assumed power in 2023, taking over from the Bongo family, who had governed the Central African nation for more than five decades.
