The World Trade Organization (WTO) confirmed that its next ministerial conference will be held in Cameroon from March 26-29, 2026.
This event will bring together trade ministers from around the world to negotiate new global trade rules.
Cameroon’s WTO ambassador, Salomon Eheth, expressed hopes that the conference would showcase Cameroon and Africa’s potential for investment and sustainable development.
The WTO faces a challenging future, with analysts predicting heightened trade tensions, particularly with U.S. President-elect Donald Trump.
The organization has struggled to reach meaningful agreements in recent meetings, including its February session in Abu Dhabi.
WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, reappointed for a second term, called for a fresh approach to break the deadlock.
“We must focus on delivering outcomes wherever and whenever possible,” she said, urging negotiators to adopt a more dynamic strategy.
