Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty announced on Sunday that Cairo aims to develop a joint roadmap with Pakistan for 2026. The plan intends to boost bilateral cooperation across economic, political, and cultural sectors, strengthening longstanding diplomatic ties.
Abdelatty delivered a message from President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to Pakistani counterpart Asif Ali Zardari during an official visit. He emphasised implementing UN Security Council Resolution 2803 on Gaza and advancing the second phase of the US ceasefire plan.
The Egyptian minister called for a fully operational international stabilization force to sustain the fragile truce in the Palestinian enclave. Preparations were reviewed for an international conference on Gaza’s early recovery and reconstruction, originally scheduled for November but not yet held.
The ceasefire, mediated by Türkiye, Egypt, and Qatar and backed by the US, ended two years of Israeli bombardment in Gaza. The conflict has claimed over 70,000 lives, mostly women and children, and injured more than 170,000 since October 2023.
Phase one of the ceasefire includes the release of Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, signalling cautious optimism. The plan also envisions Gaza’s rebuilding and the creation of a new governing structure, excluding Hamas, as part of broader stabilisation efforts.
