Ethiopian Airlines, Africa’s largest carrier, is grappling with significant delays in aircraft deliveries due to a recent strike at Boeing. The industrial action, which lasted seven weeks, has disrupted production of the 737 MAX and 777 models, impacting the airline’s growth plans.
Mesfin Tasew, CEO of Ethiopian Airlines, expressed concern over the delayed deliveries, stating that the situation has worsened since the strike. While European aircraft manufacturer Airbus is delivering on schedule, Boeing’s production has been significantly affected.
The 737 MAX, which was involved in a fatal crash in 2019, has since been reintroduced into service. However, the recent disruptions have further complicated the airline’s recovery efforts.
In addition to the Boeing delays, Ethiopian Airlines is facing challenges due to ongoing conflicts in Sudan and the Middle East. The airline has suspended flights to Beirut and Khartoum, and has also reduced services to Tel Aviv.
Despite these hurdles, Ethiopian Airlines remains optimistic about achieving its year-end targets, thanks to recent deliveries of Airbus A350-900 aircraft. The airline continues to focus on its long-term growth strategy and remains committed to providing quality service to its passengers.
